What is the position with the annual subscriptions for the 2020/21 year, in light of the temporary closure of the club during March, April and May?Updated 05.06.20. To recap: When the club closed on 23rd March due to the lockdown, we asked members who were willing and able to do so, to renew their 20/21 membership; with a commitment that we would provide a credit for next year’s 21/22 membership for any period when play was suspended due to lockdown.
Now that we have reopened for singles tennis from 15th May and for doubles from 1st June, the Board has considered the credit position again and decided to proceed as follows (subject to any changes in Government/LTA guidance if lockdown is reintroduced).
1. Renewed your tennis membership from 1st April
As announced last week, if you resumed playing during May, we will give you two months credit off your annual subscription for the 21/22 membership year. If you did not resume playing until after 1st June when the courts were fully open again – we will give you ten weeks credit off your annual subscription for next year. If this applies to you – could you please tell us on [email protected]. If you are still unable to resume playing because you are shielding or self-isolating on coronavirus medical advice, we will give you an extended credit period up to a maximum of three months. Please contact the club office to discuss this. Please note that if we do not hear otherwise, we shall have to assume that you resumed playing from 15th May and therefore your credit period for next year will be two months.
2. Temporary Tennis Membership
We have decided to introduce a new Temporary Tennis Member category to help during the lockdown/coronavirus period.
This will only be available to people who already have connections to the club. For example, previous members with extenuating circumstances or children, siblings or relations currently residing with existing members.
There will be a monthly fee pro-rata to the annual subscription for the appropriate age category, payable by direct debit. Alternatively, the usual £5 Visitor fee arrangement is still available.
3. Members that have not yet renewed
Thank you to all those that have already renewed their membership – we very much appreciate your support. We fully understand that this has not been possible for some members. Since we have reopened, our monthly running costs have increased and although we are receiving some income, we are still operating at a loss.
We have therefore started a membership recruitment campaign and the club office is contacting those members that have not yet renewed. The zero joining fee offer is still available, and we would be very grateful if members who are thinking of rejoining could do so as soon as possible. Thank you for your support for the club at this difficult time.
4. Squash members
See our update on squash member credits in E-News 03.07.20.
5. Squash, social and hockey members
This will be reviewed in due course.

What will happen regarding the plans to build two new padel courtsWe will continue with the planning applications for the padel courts so that the courts can be built once the coronavirus uncertainties have subsided and things are more back to normal. The project will not start until we are certain that we have the financial resources to complete it.
