Felicity Thomas wins third over 75s tennis singles title

East Glos member Felicity Thomas has won her third Super Seniors singles title since moving into the over 75s in January.

Playing a Grade 2 tournament in Bagnoles de l’Orne, Normandy on indoor red clay, she beat Mary Marty of France in the final, 4-6 7-6 7-6, a match lasting 2 hours 55 minutes. Felicity was behind for much of the match, her opponent unable to serve out for the match twice in the second set. She has not played a foreign opponent more often than Mary. Felicity now leads 5-4 in their head-to-head.

As a result, she has leapfrogged two other British women in the world rankings, with Mary Marty following them at No. 11. Felicity is delighted with this as she is now the highest-ranked British player, which will help her seeding for the British Clay Courts Championships in Bournemouth in May. She knows the German world number one has entered already, and she would prefer not to meet her in the first round!

After less than two hours, Felicity and Mary were back on court again for their final doubles match. With Liz Bamber (Oxfordshire), Felicity won the over 60s doubles title.
