Macmillan Coffee Morning raises £1773

East Glos Club held its annual Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 25th September.

Organiser Concetta Knee comments:

“Where to start with my thanks for all the help and support I was given running this year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning?

“The sun shining – again – definitely needs thanks. The Club Manager, ground, bar and kitchen staff were very patient when I kept nipping into the office with more information or another favour. The volunteers are too many to name individually, but you know who you are, and the success of this event depends on all of you, before, during and afterwards. So a huge thank you.

“The generosity of the raffle and bring & buy gifts never cease to astound me and this year our members’ baking expertise was also greatly appreciated. The stallholders all play their part and the members and guests who supported Macmillan by purchasing their wares or giving extra donations are also essential to the mix.

“To date, with Gift Aid, the total is £1773.26 and we are hopeful that HSBC will add some extra funding to this. If you have any comments, ideas or suggestions for next year please contact me any time. I am already planning ahead!”

The event also included a cake stall manned by Celia Lawson-Pegg and Octavia Waley-Cohen.

Celia comments:

“At 0830 the cake stall was already busy with deliveries of cakes, baked by friends off to play tennis, and later from others who stayed to sample the delicious selection and reserve portions to take home. A number of cakes were bought whole by stall holders and visitors to the stand which included Victoria sandwiches, chocolate, cappuccino and fresh cream gateaux.

“Our thanks go to everyone who contributed and gave us a fabulous variety of cakes that appealed to all taste buds. Particular thanks go to Moran’s who donated the tastiest apricot and almond cake that received the most comments, EG’s Mary Berry (but much younger) Theresa, and our prize winner Alison Hook who decorated a spectacular cake especially for EG complete with tennis ball!

“The stand made over £210 and was sold out by 11:40. Being competitive we are already making plans to improve this figure, so keep watching the “Bake off”and be inspired to help us achieve even more for such a worthwhile cause in 2016.”
