East Glos squash pro Nathan Lake, the World No.126, captured the second PSA World Tour title of his career with a victory over fellow Englishman Ashley Davies in the final of the Rathbones Jersey Squash Classic, PSA Challenger 5 event.

The 22-year-old won his first PSA World Tour title in South Africa at the beginning of the month and followed that up with some superb form which saw him defeat number one seed Joel Makin in a tense 3-2 semi-final victory.

Davies meanwhile also had to fight through a difficult semi-final against second seed Michael Harris, with two of the games going to a tiebreak as Davies earned the hard-fought victory. It was Lake who recovered earlier after the pair’s titanic semi-final tussles and he took a strong opening game with an 11-6 victory. Davies struggled with the Cheltenham-born third seed’s energetic game and succumbed to another loss in in the second.

Lake pushed on to record an 11-7 win in the third and final game to take the match and the title in brilliant fashion.

Nathan says: “I am delighted to win my second title in a month and to carry on the form I showed in South Africa. I was seeded number 3 for the event in Jersey and I felt as though if I played well I had a chance.

I was pleased to come out on the right side of an 110 minute marathon in the semi final against the number 1 seed from Wales and a regular training partner of mine, but then also to back it up the next day and win the final topped off a fantastic week. I’ve got one more event this season before I take a bit of a break and start summer training so hopefully I can stay fit and healthy and build on what’s already been a great end to the season.

Final: [3] Nathan Lake (ENG) bt [4] Ashley Davies (ENG) 3-0 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 (50m)
