National award for East Glos tennis coach Steve Worsley

East Glos tennis coach Steve Worsley has been named Aegon Coach of the Month for December 2015.

Steve WorsleySteve won the award for his dedication, vision and achievements during his first year as Tennis Manager at East Glos.

Financial services company Aegon is a key sponsor of British Tennis, and the monthly awards recognise individuals in British tennis that have reached outstanding achievements on the court or contributing to the development of players.

Steve, 35, who lives in Prestbury has been a tennis coach for 15 years and was appointed as the club’s Tennis Manager in 2015. He has overseen a 195% increase in adults and an 11% increase in children playing at East Glos.

Part of this success is due to the club’s strategy of opening up its tennis courses to non-club members, helping beginners to try out the sport for the first time.

Through a team of seven coaches, Worsley organises Cardio Tennis, Tennis Tuesdays, Mini Tennis, Tennis Express, junior and adult programmes.

Steve said “Winning this award means a great deal to me, but any success I have as an individual is only made possible with the help of a great team around me.

“We have a fantastic opportunity at East Glos Club to continue to grow the coaching programme and to promote tennis as a healthy and fun activity for people in Cheltenham and beyond”.

This is the second recent award for Steve. In December, he achieved Gloucestershire Coach of the Year at the Gloucestershire Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) annual awards, along with East Glos gaining the Club of the Year award.
