Northumberland wins Ladies County Cup Group 2 at East Glos

East Glos Club was delighted to host the Ladies Group 2 for the LTA County Cup competition last week.

Now in its 125th year, County Cup events give players the opportunity to represent their county in team competition on national and regional stages.

We welcomed teams from Warwickshire, Essex, Kent, Lancashire, Northumberland, and Nottinghamshire for a week’s tennis. Each team competed against each other, playing three rounds of doubles matches each day on our grass courts.

The players did exceptionally well playing some excellent tennis under difficult hot weather conditions, cheered on by supporters and club members. British number one Dan Evans also paid us a visit, supporting his home county of Warwickshire.

The final standings came down to the last day. Congratulations to Northumberland for winning the group and Kent for gaining promotion. Warwickshire was third and Nottinghamshire fourth. Essex and Lancashire were both relegated to group 3, swapping places with Gloucestershire’s Ladies team, promoted to group 2 while playing in Nottingham.

Darren Morris, Club Manager, said, “This is a prestigious event for East Glos to host, especially group 2 with high-quality tennis from all players. The feedback received from players, captains and officials was excellent, highlighting our wonderful grass courts and a hard-working team of staff looking after our guests throughout the week.”
