Padel is launching at East Glos.
The fastest-growing sport in the world you’ve probably never heard of.
In November 2020 we started construction of three new padel courts with completion expected in early 2021. These will be the first padel courts in south-west England.
What is padel?
It’s a rapidly growing sport across Europe and the UK. Our courts will be the first in south-west England. Padel can be played in groups of mixed ages and abilities, as it is not power dominant. It’s played mainly in a doubles format on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court.
So it’s the same as tennis then, just on a smaller court?
Yes and no. The rules are broadly the same as tennis, although you serve underhand and the walls are used as part of the game with the ball allowed to bounce off them.
Sounds good. Tell me more.
Padel is for all ages and abilities, including beginners. Even with limited racket skills, you can quickly engage in dynamic and fun rallies, using the court’s surroundings. Because it always played as doubles it’s a really social activity and ideal for families and friends.
Who can play?
It’s an excellent opportunity for the local community to participate in this new, fun, sociable game. And we hope our existing members will give it a go as well. We’ll provide more information on how to take part as we get closer to launch. To receive occasional email updates on progress please follow the link below.

Where are you building them?
We’ll be building the three courts on our current grass court 27A – see the layout below. We’ll be using state-of-the-art LED lighting, which reduces light spill and upward glow.
