Snow: Why we don’t clear the tennis courts

Some members often  ask why we don’t clear snow from the courts.

There are a number of reasons for this:

• Using any equipment, for example, shovels can damage the court and remove the infill (sand, clay particles) therefore causing more long-term damage.

• It would take many hours to clear due to the size of a tennis court, and there would be nowhere close by to put the volume of snow that would be generated.

• Bringing machinery onto the courts would compact the snow further and it would, therefore, take longer to defrost.
