Courses summary

Advanced doubles

Serve-and-volley and chip-and-charge, the old-fashioned virtues of doubles, now sadly fading from the professional game. However, it still makes sense if you can dominate the net with only 36 feet to cover between two of you. This class aims to show how to get there effectively, how to dominate the areas you need to cover and how to deal with the lob.

Please note this class is intended for advanced players playing at league or higher ladder level – you must have an effective serve and two decent volleys and an overhead.

Doubles interceptions – when and how

Ever wished you were braver at making that volley interception? This class will help you to understand when to make your move and where and how to hit the volley. Ideal for league and ladder doubles players.

Standard: League/Ladder.

Groundstroke consistency and placement

The bedrock of good club level doubles is groundstroke consistency, and good placement to put your opponent under pressure. This class aims to help provide the quality that every player wants, and help you to understand the risks and rewards involved in attacking play.

Standard: Club/League/Ladder.

Serving – pace and placement

Make your serve more effective with the two X-factors, pace and placement. This class will give you some simple tips to add a little more juice to your first serve and hit the key areas that will cause your opponent the most discomfort.

Standard: Club/League/Ladder.

Smash and high volley

The two shots we all feel we should stick away for a winner – but how often do they end up halfway up the net or somewhere in Thirlestaine Road! This class aims to help you understand when to smash and when to volley, and the vital difference in technique between the two.

Standard: Club/League/Ladder.

Two at the net – when, why and how?

Even if you are not a volley king or queen like Stefan or Martina, there’s no reason when you should not be able to play two at the net when the time is right – and sometimes it makes more sense to come in than go backwards. How to get there, when to hit and what to cover when you are there, will be the main topics.

Standard: Club/Ladder. League players see Advanced Doubles.
