Club juniors enjoy Wimbledon experience

Well done to East Glos junior Eva Haynes, who competed in this year’s Play Your Way to Wimbledon event.

Eva made the knockout stages and the last 16 in the UK, only losing to the eventual winner.

She thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing on the Wimbledon grass courts. She managed to test herself against the top U14 players in the UK and is now more motivated than ever to train harder and continue to progress in her tennis.

Play Your Way to Wimbledon is the UK’s largest individual mass-participation tennis competition. Players start by competing locally at an event at a local club, park or school, with the winners progressing to the county or area finals and then onto the national finals at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, some of our other juniors were enthralled to participate in a Wimbledon tennis clinic.

Seb Coventry, Arabella Young and Tilly Sellek enjoyed their day at the All England Club, leaving them with fantastic memories and a great experience.

The sessions were led by former British number one and Junior Wimbledon Champion Laura Robson and the AELTC’s Head Coach Dan Bloxham. Seb was thrilled that British tennis pro Jay Clarke was also helping out.

They did an intensive but fun warm-up and various movement, intensity, and court positioning drills. They worked on improving their serving practice and did some great volley drills (Seb’s favourite!). They then finished with some beat the coaches doubles championships.

Seb says, “I have come away with so many great ideas to put into practice along with the positive message of to keep playing tennis, enjoy the process and don’t get hung up on ranking or other players and their achievements. Just keep playing tennis!”.
