East Glos Club launches new working group to improve focus on sustainability

East Glos Club already has an environmental sustainability policy which was launched in December 2021. However, the club’s board has now decided it should be doing more to promote the club’s activities on this front.

Many of the policy objectives and aims are ongoing, and some progress is being made in achieving them.

For example

  • Converting to LED lighting.
  • Reducing energy consumption.
    Recycling.
  • Sowing wildflowers around our site.
  • Investigating the installation of solar panels.
  • Local forum participation.

However, less effort has been made on some of the overarching opportunities like calculating our carbon footprint, setting overall targets, making it a higher profile and getting the club membership more involved.

A new sustainability working group has been set up

This group will concentrate on all “green” matters as above, both those with a community element and those that directly benefit the club itself.

The following club members have agreed to take part

  • Peter Mitchener: Mitch will lead this new working group. He has been our community relations lead for the last few months and has now been co-opted onto the club board to give our community matters a higher profile. He will report to the board on both our sustainability and community activities.
  • Chris Maughan: Chris has helped with some of our initial work on investigating solar panels.
  • Peter Niblett: Peter is a biodiversity enthusiast and has been involved in our ongoing wildflower planting project.
  • Stuart Dominey: Stuart is our head groundsman responsible for the house and grounds operations.
♻️ How club members can get involved

It’s important to us that we use any sustainability skills and knowledge among our members. If you’re a club member and would like to know more about how you can get involved, please get in touch with Mitch at [email protected].
