East Glos Club has won four awards at the 2015 Gloucestershire Lawn Tennis Association British Tennis Awards.
Club of the Year – East Glos Club
Coach of the Year – Steve Worsley
Outstanding Achievement Award – Margaret Pedrette
Mary Eyre Award, Junior Boy Player of the Year – Aaron Osmond
The awards evening held on Monday 7th December 2015 formed part of the LTA British Tennis Awards, which is a celebration of people and places that deliver participation and competition. The awards recognise the great work that happens at local tennis clubs and centres in the Gloucestershire.
Darren Morris club manager said:
“We are proud to have received the accolades after what has been a very successful year for East Glos. We have seen a growth of 8% in membership during the year, along with 500 people attending the club’s open day in May. A significant investment of £160,000 to resurface and floodlight four astro courts to synthetic clay was completed in the summer to ensure the club provides the best facilities for its members.
“There was success on the court with numerous teams, adult, senior and junior winning their respective leagues, with the Ladies A team crowned County winners. The club also hosted national and regional events with the Ladies County Week and South West Road to Wimbledon finals played on the club’s ten grass courts.
“The awards reflect the hard work of the volunteers who run the committees, teams and work alongside the club staff to provide opportunities for people to play tennis, whatever level they may be.
“The coaching team led by Steve Worsley is one of the best in the region, which is reflected in the increase in adult, mini and junior players learning or improving their tennis game at the club, in schools and at Montpellier.
“Margaret Pedrette has been a stalwart at the club for over 40 years and thoroughly deserved the award for outstanding achievement, after all the volunteer hours that she has put in over the years.”
