East Glos hosts major LTA junior tennis championships

During the first week of June, East Glos had the honour of hosting the LTA Under 14s Grass Court National Championships for the second year running.

The top 32 boys and girls in the country competed to become national champions in singles and doubles, with the singles winners and runners-up gaining a wildcard to Wimbledon.

The girls’ winner was Edie Griffiths (Essex), who beat Hollie Smart (Middlesex) in a two-and-half-hour final with a tie-break in the final set.

The boys’ final was won by #1 seed Rhys Lawlor (Hertfordshire), beating #2 seed Leo Wright (Middlesex) 6-4 6-4.

With the sun shining all week, many club members enjoyed the excellent tennis on show, with over 200 people watching the finals on Saturday.

The event brings over £150k to the local community, with players, parents, coaches, and officials staying at local hotels and dining out.
