By Mark Toseland, East Glos Squash Manager

The annual ProAm Doubles Tournament took place on the weekend on 18th and 19th June, at East Glos Club, Cheltenham. Members and visitors experienced spectacular doubles squash, festivities, live music and more.

With the strongest line-up we’ve ever hosted at this event, the scene was set for an extraordinary weekend of squash.ProAm sponsors

On Saturday, club members took on the pros, with the top seeds ranked outside the top eight having a chance to make the quarter-final stages.

The only upset was the younger Malik brothers, Heston and Bailey, taking out the 5/8 seeds, 2019 winners Danny Hockborn and Nick Mulvey.

The quarter-finals then saw numerous upsets unfolding as 5/8 seeds Nathan Mead and Jared Carter took out the #1 seeds Curtis and Perry Malik in a three-winner, 11-10, in the deciding game.

Furthermore, 5/8 seeds Will Salter and Jordan Hardwick took out the 3/4 seeds James Peach and Jack Mitterer 2-0, 11-10, 11-9. 5/8 seeds Jonny Harford and Robbie Temple taking out 3/4 seeds Ollie Pett and Noah Meredith.

Plenty of sustenance was on offer as La Pizzeria kept everyone fed with their fabulous pizzas, thus keeping the event alive. Thank you to club member Rich Hancock for supporting the event once more.

Lastly, Reivers’ Gallows put on a great live music show till 11pm, engaging the crowd and setting up the remaining guests and members for a night out in Cheltenham.

Sunday saw the junior doubles begin before the semi-finals of the main draws in the afternoon. The finals were hotly contested throughout and built up the buzz to the main draw final between 5/8 seeds Jonny Harford and Robbie Temple and #2 seeds Elliot Morris-Devred and Simon Herbert.

Congratulations to all our finalists and eventual winners on such a well-played squash doubles event.
