Fantastic experience for club member Heather Sheridan at Seniors World Padel Championships

Last week, club member Heather Sheridan played for Ireland in the FIP (International Padel Federation) Seniors World Padel Championships in La Nucia, Alicante, Spain.

Heather SheridanHeather takes up the story. “I had a fantastic week, from the opening ceremony on Sunday evening to watching the men’s final between Spain and Argentina (Argentina won) on the following Saturday afternoon.

“In between, I was lucky enough to play every day for Ireland, in the 55s age category with Maite Cosmen against Denmark and Belgium on Monday and Tuesday and then for the rest of the week in the 45s age category with Yvonne Flynn against Lithuania, Norway, Uruguay and Finland.

“As a team, we beat Lithuania and Uruguay and, with two excellent partners and the luck of the Irish, I won four of my six matches – against Denmark, Lithuania, Uruguay and on the last day, Finland.

“In the 55s open pairs competition that runs alongside the team competition throughout the week, an administrative error, unfortunately, meant Maite and I didn’t get to play our first-round match. Another time, I hope.

“The women’s Irish team finished twentieth overall, and hopefully, that will be enough for automatic qualification in 2026. In the meantime, my fingers are crossed that FIP will introduce a 60s age category!”
