Gloucestershire summer tennis league: Successful season for East Glos

It has been a successful season for the East Glos men’s and ladies’ teams in the Gloucestershire summer league. Here’s a roundup from ladies’ and men’s team coordinators Laura Eales and Mark Lunn.

Overall, it has been a successful summer season for our ladies’ teams.

The A team won the premier division, dropping only four rubbers out of 48, and the B team narrowly finished 5th behind Bredon, Chalford, and Minchinhampton. They’ll be joined next season by the C team, who won division 1A, winning 41/48 rubbers. The D team was promoted from division 2A, winning almost all their matches 4-0 or 3-1, with many of their players having a 100%-win record.

The E team came fourth in division 2B, and after some close matches, the F team were unfortunately relegated from division 3B. The G team were also relegated from division 4A in a very close battle, with only seven points separating the top and bottom of the division.

A big thanks to all the players, team captains, and the ladies’ captain, Marie Bell, for overseeing all the teams. Looking forward to a fun and competitive season in 2024!

It has been a very positive season for the men’s teams, with several outstanding team and individual performances.

Our men’s G team finished third in division 5B, with 31 points, behind Winchcombe C (35) and Bourton Vale, the winners who had 41 points. A special mention goes to Martin Tracey, who won 18 out of 18 in this division.

The F team finished fifth in division 3B. The D team finished second in division 1B. They managed 29 points, and eventual winners Red Marley had 37 points.

The E team finished sixth in division 1A in a challenging season against David Lloyd B, Painswick A, Cheltenham Civil Service A, and Lydney A.

The C team finished fourth in the premier division, one of three teams, with 20 points. The B team finished third in the premier division, with 22 points. The A team finished first in the premier division, with 39 points, four more than second-place David Lloyd A. Congratulations to the A team for their win. Special mentions go to Mo Buescher, who had the top winning statistics from any team with 20 wins out of 24 and Fergus Franklin, who finished third in the rankings for matches won.

Thanks to all the players who represented the club and to the men’s captain, Thomas Stuecken, for overseeing the teams again. We look forward to next year’s challenge.
