Historic Cheltenham Open Tennis Tournament attracts over 300 players

Founded 94 years ago in 1930, last week’s Cheltenham Open Tennis Tournament attracted players from as far afield as Middlesex, Nottinghamshire and Cornwall.

With 318 entries and 366 matches played, the windy conditions didn’t make it ideal. Still, the lack of rain did mean the tournament was played to schedule. Comprising 22 events, the level of competition was demonstrated by the fact that titles for home players were hard to come by.

Thank you to the club staff for pulling together so well and, of course, to tournament organiser Simon Corbishley. Players are attracted to this event because of the experience they enjoy, which is a testament to the club’s offering. Thanks also to our club members for sharing the club’s facilities.
