Significant success for East Glos in county tennis awards

LTA awardsEach year, the LTA Tennis Awards highlight the incredible achievements and contributions of people across Britain.

We are proud to have won two awards in the 2022 Gloucestershire LTA Awards announced this week. In addition to this, two awards went to East Glos members.

Firstly, we won Club of the Year. Key achievements in 2021 included the launch of padel, organising and delivering a new Grade 2 junior grass court tournament and hosting Ladies Division 2 in the summer County Cup.

Andrea ButlandSecondly, we won Competition of the Year for the second year running. This year the award was for organising and delivering the LTA Grade 2 junior tournament. This win is a testament to the efforts of the whole team: grounds, hospitality, reception and stringing.

Our club chair Andrea Butland was awarded Volunteer of the Year. Andrea works tirelessly for East Glos and has been a huge support to her board colleagues, club staff, and volunteers over the past year. As well as this, Andrea is the GLTA safeguarding lead, liaising with other clubs and the LTA.

Simon CorbishleyWe must also recognise Simon Corbishley. He is a former East Glos head coach and has a long association with the club. Simon was awarded Official of the Year. He has delivered professional tournaments, including our Grade 2 event, county championships and many other one-day tournaments.

As winners of the county awards, all the above will go forward to the regional awards. Subsequently, the regional winners are put forward for the National LTA Tennis Awards, alongside Tennis Wales and Tennis Scotland winners.

Lewis MooreFinally, Lewis Moore won the Mary Eyre Award in the boys’ category in an award specific to Gloucestershire Tennis. The Mary Eyre Award is for children aged 12 to 18 who have shown achievement and potential or overcome adversity. Lewis won his award for being fun, committed and passionate in his approach to tennis.
